Best Eco Friendly Skin Care Products

Coral Isles Reef Safe SunblockColeman SkinSmart DEET Free Insect Repellent

Ecotourism:

Tropical Places like the Caribbean Islands, Mexico and Sunny Florida draw millions of visitors each year for their warm weather, soft sand and incredible vistas, the problem however is the environmental impact of heavy tourism has on these sensitive ecosystems.

Environmental Impacts:

Only minutes away from world famous Cape Canaveral, Florida the 'Banana River,' is home to; the gentle Manatee, sting ray, and Bio-luminescent aquatic life, and it is being threatened from Algae Bloom caused from run off fertilizer and contaminants introduced from joy boating and other activities.

Places like Honduras, Mexico, Jamaica and Hawaii are taking proactive steps toward protecting their most sensitive ecosystems.  For example, you may find localities will permit only Reef Safe Sunblock, and may even require showering before entering their waters. In other locations, like Costa Rica, you may find traditional Insect Repellents are banned.

Purchase Reef Safe Sunblock:

While there are many products on the market, I have provided a suggestion of Coral Isles Reef Safe Sunblock (which is also recommended by the Coral Reef Alliance).  Whether you choose Coral Isles or another brand you should recognize and avoid environmentally harmful ingredients like;

  • Oxybenzone
  • Octinoxate
  • Benzophenone-1
  • Benzophenone-8
  • OD-PABA
  • 4-Methylbenzylidene camphor
  • 3-Benzylidene camphor
  • Octocrylene

Purchase Eco-Friendly Insect Repellent:

While choosing 100% all natural ingredients, such as Citronella, Lemon and Eucalyptus oils, may seem attractive, their effectiveness can be inconsistent, they often have strong fragrances, and the essential oils may not be suitable for sensitive skin of younger children.

The next best thing to an 100% all natural ingredient repellent is one with a DEET alternative such as 'Picaridin.'  Again, I have provided a suggestion and from the longtime, well respected camping equipment maker 'Coleman.'

The Coleman SkinSmart DEET-Free Insect Repellent has been proven to be both effective by the Center for Disease Control and safe by the EPA.  (See Environmental Protection Agency for more on Insect Repellents and finding the right one for you.)

Final Thoughts:

While these two choices may seem insignificant, when multiplied by millions of people each year, we can help to protect these beautiful destinations for the future generations to enjoy.  I am not an affiliate marketer, I do not receive any compensation of any kind for any product I may feature within my blog.

As a Travel Professional and frequent traveler I have found certain products to be useful, and in keeping with my promise to my clients of maximizing their travel experiences, I share only those products I believe to be of the greatest value.

When should you purchase Medical Trip Insurance?

Medical Trip Insurance:

While no one plans to be injured or come down with an illness while on a holiday, the truth is that this occurs all of the time.  Throughout my extensive travel, I have both become ill while traveling in Barcelona, as well as experienced a cruise ship I was aboard return to port to save a passengers life.

When should you buy:

Major health insurance carriers will provide at least some coverage related to claims occurring outside of one's home country, but often  there are important gaps, and most of us do not consider these details while planning a trip!

Everything from the continued variants of Covid, traffic accidents, simple slip and fall injuries, and now extreme weather conditions threaten our health and our travel.   You definitely should consider purchasing Medical Trip Insurance anytime;
  • Pre-existing health conditions
  • Do not have any health insurance
  • Existing health insurance does not cover claims outside of home country
  • Gaps in existing health insurance-  'does not cover medical evacuation'
  • Traveling to known infectious area
  • Involved in higher risk activities; hiking, climbing, etc
  • Exposed to extreme weather conditions

As a Travel Professional I always perform my diligence of offering medical trip insurance to at least those traveling abroad.  Medical evacuation insurance is almost mandatory for any client who either is or could be medically at risk.

Final Thoughts:

Before booking a cruise, visiting Booking Websites, or making Online Booking Flights, be honest about your health, know and understand your insurance coverage, and know where you are going and what you will be doing.  For pennies on the dollar you can obtain temporary Medical Trip insurance to provide you with life saving or medical transport services.

Airtags: 'The Ultimate Travel Stress Relief Product'

My name is Adriana Da Silva, I am a Travel Advisor in Longwood, Florida.  I write travel reviews to help my clients plan the best vacation getaways and packages.  I focus on Popular Resorts, Cruise Companies and Tropical Places that remain the top adult picks for the money.

AirTags: The stress relief product so Nice, I had to say it twice

I first wrote about this amazing Travel Product during the Holidays of 2023 (see Holiday Stocking Stuffers). The number one fear of travel surprisingly is not flying, but losing one's luggage.

  • For less than $25 each, travelers can use ingenious devices to track and locate their luggage via their iPhone
  • For multiple bags, there are value packs available.  While there are multiple manufactures that produce these I personally prefer Apple Products.  My entire Apple ecosystem has served me without any problems over 10yrs and the AirTag connects easily to the 'Find My' app
  • Once you are seated inside the airplane your peace of mind begins as you can open up your phone go to the 'Find My' and start tracking the location of your bag.  These devices not only give you peace of mind, but they save you time at airports!
  • Upon arrival at your final or connecting destinations, you can take out your phone and start tracking your luggage and be the first person reunited with your luggage at those chaotic airport luggage carousels

If you also follow previous Travel Tips I have provided, such as 'The Rule of 1' (see previous article) and 'how to save time & stress at airports' (see full article) you will be on your way to a Dream Vacation!

The Rule of '1' Best Time Management to Travel

My name is Adriana Da Silva, I am a Travel Advisor in Longwood, Florida.  I write travel reviews to help my clients plan the best vacation getaways and vacation packages.  I focus on Popular Resorts, Cruise Companies and Tropical Places that remain the top adult picks for the money.

The Rule of '1':

The greatest mistake a travel planner makes happens before their hotel reservations, visiting Booking Websites, or Online Booking flights.  The old adage 'we should never grocery shop while hungry,' also applies to travel and our plans for vacation.

Inexperienced travelers tend to either under or over estimate the time needed in their trip planning. This results in either feeling rushed or bored having run out of things to see and do too early.

While there are exceptions to every rule,  with over 30years of extensive travel, I have developed a rule to planning my holiday time that has worked so well, I considered it to be almost a 'time management law to travel.'

The rule of '1' works like this:

When considering my itinerary for a trip and how long I will need at my final destination, I consider how long a one way commute to the final destination will take in hours and then multiply that round number by days as my approximate duration.   1 Way- 1 Hour - 1 Day!

What is wonderful about this Travel Tip is that it works no matter how you travel; car, high speed train, or plane, and I can even apply it to plan my road trip!

Here is an example

Let's say I want to visit Brazil, and I live in Orlando, Florida.
I find out that a one way flight to Brazil will take 8 hours.

The Rule in Action:

My rule says that I should stay 1 day for every one hour of commute in the one way trip.
This means I should consider staying in Brazil no less than 8 days.

1 Way to Brazil = 8 Hours = 8 Days minimum!

Anyone who has ever traveled to Brazil from Orlando would definitely agree that 8 days would be the very minimum to visit this country after an 8 hour flight!

If you also follow the first two travel tips I have provided, of 'knowing yourself' (see previous article) and 'knowing where you are going' (see full article) you will be on your way to a Dream Vacation!

How to save over 2 hours at the Airport !

Travelers waiting in crowded TSA lines at Orlando International Airport

Before making Hotel Reservations, visiting Booking Websites, or making Online Booking Flights, read these simple Traveling Tips I have provided to help save time, and stress at the airport.

Vacations should be easy, after all this is your 'Premium Time' away from any normal obligations, yet the day of departure is so notoriously stressful that the iconic 1990's movie franchise 'Home Alone,' starring Macaulay Culkin is based entirely upon the chaos involved with leaving for the airport.

TSA PreCheck Enrollment (save 35mins):

For U.S. citizens living in the United States this program can save you considerable time waiting in the U.S. Airport Security lines.  On average, TSA PreCheck members wait only 5mins in line!  Depending on which program you select, the current application fee may range between $78-$149 but your membership will last up to 5yrs and then you will be required to re-apply should you choose to continue using the program.  See TSA for full enrollment (TSA)

Mobile Boarding Pass (save 5mins):

Today, nearly all airlines offer a Mobile Alternative to a printed Boarding Pass. Participating airlines will provide you with a link to simple instructions of completing an online form.  After answering a few easy questions you will be provided with a QR Code.  Using your phone you present this code to the Gate Representative upon boarding and if you use a luggage porter (see tip below) you will skip the Ticketing Counter Completely!

Priority Boarding (save 20mins):

As you are completing the Mobile Boarding Pass form, for a nominal additional charge around $25 per seat, most airlines offer an opportunity to purchase 'Priority Boarding,' allowing you to jump ahead and save as much as 20mins of waiting in line for all groups to be called.  This will give you a chance to secure that overhead compartment for your carry-ons!

Mobile Passport Control (save 35mins):

If you have ever returned to the U.S. from a long flight outside the country you know how painful the long line at U.S. Customs can be.  Now, with your phone you can download the Mobile Passport Control app. ('MPC'), and after completing a few easy questions and taking a picture of your passport you can bypass the long standard lines and head straight the 'MPC'  line showing the agent your QR code!  I've provided the link (U.S. Customs and Border Protection)

Online Immigration Portal (save 5mins):

Depending upon your final destination you may be required to complete an Immigration and Declaration form upon arrival into a country, often this may be presented either while still aboard your plane, or while standing in line at the final destination, and you will almost certainly not be prepared during the frantic movement of deplaning.  Similar to the Mobile Boarding Pass you can go online up to 72 hours of arrival to your final destination (I've provided St. Lucia as an example) and complete their application.  You will be provided a QR Code on your phone to present to the respective country immigration officer.  (St. Lucia Online Immigration Portal)

Dress so a Metal Detector will love you (save 5mins):

One of the most dreaded experiences of the TSA security line is the removal of shoes, belts, hats, and other personal items that may sound alarm for further inspection and delay.  To speed your experience, dress comfortably in loose fitting clothing.  Avoid the need for belts and opt for string, or elastic waste bands.  For shoes, try slip ons or velcro alternatives.  Keep your important carry-on's simple and well organized, use a money belt for those things you need quick access to but don't want to lose like your Passport, Drivers License and travel cash.  You'll be able to pass thru TSA quickly and slip your shoes right back on without delaying your party to the gate shuttle or last cup of coffee before departure

Leave your car at home (save 30mins):

Most people living in metropolitan areas with mid to large sized airports dread the time and cost of airport parking.  The supposedly cheaper offsite parking will require additional time to be shuttled to and from their location and the airport.  Instead of airport parking, opt for either a friend, family, Uber, taxi or even limo service (Mears) to pick you up and drop you off directly at the Airport Departures and Ticketing.  Unless your commute is unusually long, it is very unlikely the total expense of airport transfer would exceed the total cost of airport parking

Use Airport Luggage Porter (save 30mins)

Usually just outside your respective Airport Departures area there will be Luggage handlers waiting to assist you.  If you have completed step#2 above and have no reason to Check-in at the Ticketing Counter, you can save as much as 30mins by leaving your luggage with one of these porters.  The porter will take your flight information, tag your luggage properly and ensure it is placed with the proper flight.  Don't forget to tip these hard working individuals who just saved you at least 30mins of standing in line!

Private Shuttle between Connecting Gates (save 30mins):

Admittedly, this is more expensive and may not be for everyone, and so I have not included it as a #9 tip.  If you find yourself connecting at one of the most stressed airports (see previous story), or a hub such as American Airlines at Dallas,  notorious for dropping passengers at opposite sides of the airport with little time to shuttle between gates, you may find private shuttle of value.

How this works;  check with your airline in advanced for coordination, and the concierge can arrange a shuttle service to be waiting for you (at a fee!) outside of the plane just below the jetway.  You would exit off the plane directly into the awaiting shuttle and would be swept to your next gate without ever walking thru the Airport!

How to Start Every Vacation Perfectly

My name is Adriana Da Silva, I am a Travel Advisor in Longwood, Florida.  I write travel reviews and Traveling Tips to help my clients plan the best travel packages.  I focus on Popular Resorts, Cruise Companies and Tropical Places that remain the top adult picks for the money.

#1 Most Important Travel Tip: 'Be honest with yourself'

The greatest travel mistake that everyone will make happens well before making hotel reservations, visiting Booking Websites, or Online Booking flights.  The old adage 'we should never grocery shop while hungry,' also applies to travel and our plans for vacation.
  • Inexperienced travelers tend to either under or over estimate the time needed in their holidays. This results in either feeling rushed in seeing too many attractions in too little time, or bored having run out of things to see and do too early
  • You must be in tune and really honest with what you are expecting from your holiday.  If action packed 'sight seeing' is the objective, with exception of major destinations, most locations will not have enough attractions to justify a stay beyond 3 or 4 full days
  • In the case of Island stays, this may be even less, averaging 1-3 days of actual 'attractions', again with exception to the major destinations
  • If sitting on a beach to rest, and read a good book is what you need, then understanding how much time you will require balancing between personal down time with other activity will help you plan more effectively and maintain harmony with those traveling with you
As a long time resident of Florida, and originally from Brazil, more than 4 days on a beach without other activity can become a trial of your patience.  Be sure to 'understand yourself', and plan accordingly.

Final Thoughts:

Before you begin planning your vacation getaway, know what your in the mood for, know what you need, be honest with yourself, and have the proper expectations of where you are going and what you will be doing.  If you would like to read my full article on this, see: (Travel Tip#1: Time Management)
