Deciding to buy luggage insurance should be one of the easiest things in your plans for vacation.  If you read my post about Travel Products (Full Story) you learned the number one fear of travel is losing one's luggage, and I recommend 'AirTags' to help track your luggage. 

For pennies on the dollar, reimbursement for the value of your personal belongings inside your luggage can be protected, and like Trip Insurance there are times when it is definitely necessary to add the cost of this protection.   

For example complex trips involving multiple locations, airport connections and even changes between different airlines, all increase the probability of your luggage being misplaced or even stolen.  

In addition, there are some airports more stressed than others and the chances of your luggage becoming, lost or even stolen is great. Therefore, if you will travel thru one of the below airports, you MUST consider luggage insurance to your travel package.

Depending on your age, you may associate Honduras with political & military scandal and even drug cartel news stories.  That however is in the past, and mostly isolated to mainland Honduras.  Today, the tourism industry has begun making major investments into the incredible island of Roatan, located approximately 40mils/65 kilometers off the northern coast of Honduras.

• Because of Honduran history,  you will see Roatan shares many similarities with parts of Mexico

• Roatan, Honduras is just under 900 miles/1500km or depending upon connections between 4 and 6 hours flight from Orlando, and U.S. Citizens will need a valid passport

• The beach front layout will make you feel you shipwrecked and washed ashore onto a little piece of paradise

• Mayan Princess is an All-Inclusive resort and owns many more  properties, including Sol y Mar Beach Club mentioned further below

• This property is a mid-sized mixture of studio ('hotel style rooms) to  one & two bedroom Villas ('apartment or condo style'), making this perfectly flexible for any number of people or budget size you are traveling with

While you cant go wrong simply enjoying the incredible serenity of this property, the more adventurous will enjoy the plentiful activities in the area that can be coordinated thru the property.  Here are a few

Currency and payment accepted in the Honduras:

The official currency in Roatan is the Honduran Lempira, however, the U.S. dollar is widely accepted and All-Inclusive Resorts use the U.S. Dollar.  Some merchants however may not accept bills larger than $20.  As with most major destinations, Credit Cards are also widely accepted.  It would be advisable to exchange a small amount of U.S. Dollars into Lempira for use with local merchants.

Should I rent a car in Honduras?

• Not necessary, Airport shuttle to and from the Mayan Princess is included 

• However, if you desire to explore on your own while on Roatan, and arriving thru Juan Manuel Galvez Int. Airport the Mayan Princess is only about 25mins or 13km/7+miles away.    Taxi is also very affordable

• The next nearest airport of Goloson Intl is approximately 88k/56+miles away

Language:

Spanish is the primary spoken language of Honduras, however many people in the tourism industry do speak English, and most signage is in both English and Spanish.  If you adventure out on your own, you should anticipate running into a few language barriers if you do not have someone traveling in your group who speaks Spanish.

Is Eleuthera right for you?

You probably have never heard of the tiny Bahamian Island of 'Eleuthera,' pronounced: 'uh-loo-thr-uh', but this tiny tropical place is known to celebrities like Lenny Kravitz, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Eddie Murphy, all who claim homes here.

What should you know about Eleuthera?

Like Bimini, Bahama, (Full Story) Eleuthera is definitively an ideal getaway for couples to rest, recharge and romance in a posh island paradise. 

• Eleuthera is a little over a 3hour flight and 2200 miles from Orlando, and approximately 50  miles east of Nassau Bahama, making it a very accessible Bahamas Vacation.

• The island was settled by the British in the mid 1600's, and has a large Cruise presence with both Disney and Princess owning private beach clubs.

• As of 2010, there is roughly only 8,200 people living on the island of Eleuthera making your chances of rubbing shoulders with one of it's celebrity occupants very good

What are the best beaches in Eleuthera?

• Best Romantic/Couples beach- Pink Sands Beach- without a doubt this beach will leave you speechless with it's uniquely pink sand caused by marine life. Located on the smaller Harbour Island off Eleuthera's coast the short ferry boat to get there is worth the trip!

• Best Family beach- Ten Bay Beach- is best for children as it has shallower waters and an interesting cave close by

• Best Water Sports beach- Surfers Beach is best for Surfing and water sports as it has bigger waves

What are the best things to see in Eleuthera?

• The Glass Window Bridge-  Estimated to be only 30feet wide, this piece of land separates the Atlantic Ocean to it's east and the Great Bahama Bank to it's west is believed to be the narrowest place on earth

• Lighthouse Point- owned by Disney since 2019

Currency and payment accepted on the island:

The official currency on Eleuthera is the Bahamian dollar, however the U.S. dollar and credit cards are generally accepted.  Like on most islands, cash is king, and smaller merchants generally are open to negotiating price.

Should I rent a car on Eleuthera?

• Yes, Eleuthera is a very long Island, stretching about 110 miles on one principal road, the Queens Highway

While the official language of the Bahamas is English, many people do speak Bahamian English, which is a dialect similar to a creole mixture.
